Physical Therapy services play a significant and growing role in disability management especially, in the areas of elder care and work related injury. Independent Physical Therapy Evaluations are a useful adjunct to managing the costs (medical & indemnity) and outcomes associated with functional impairments or disabilities. IPTEs may be requested by virtually any health care stakeholder including; insurance companies, employers, case managers, physicians (primary & specialists), and the patient themselves.
IPTEs serve a variety of purposes:
- Establish functional baselines
- Determine the medical necessity of rehabilitation services
- Determine if a current rehab program is effective
- Recommend an alternative treatment approach
IPTEs do NOT involve treatment, but are standalone, independent, unbiased consultations much like a medical second opinion or independent medical examination. IPTEs are grounded in evidence-based assessment tools widely accepted by the physical therapy community.`
